Calling All Dawns

Calling All Dawns is a song-cycle in three movements: day, night and dawn. Each movement corresponds to a different phase of life--life, death, and rebirth. In short, it's 5 songs about life, 3 songs about death, and 4 songs about rebirth. There are songs of joy, mystery, and hardship, reflecting the complexity of our mortal selves. There are songs of the deepest, darkest sorrow to accompany us through death. And finally, there are songs of triumph and exultation that bring us roaring back to life, beginning the cycle anew.

The twelve songs are sung in twelve languages, including Swahili, Mandarin, Hebrew, Irish, Farsi, and many more. The lyrics themselves come from a variety of sources, both sacred and secular: Japanese haiku, Maori proverbs, the Torah, the Bhagavad Gita, and many more. Each song flows seamlessly into the next, and the album ends on the same chord that it opens with--thereby representing the fluid, cyclical nature of the universe. It carries a strong message of unity: that regardless of race, culture and religious belief, we are all connected through our common human experience.

Christopher Tin is a composer whose career spans all major markets: film, television, video games, advertising, and the record industry. His music is marked by a natural ease of melody, and a strong sense of direction and purpose.

His music has been performed live by many orchestras around the world, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Philharmonia, Metropole Orchestra, and hundreds of amateur choirs around the world. His sheet music is published by Alfred Publishing.

In addition to his album work, he is also an active composer of music for films, video games, advertising, and many other media. He has won awards for his video game music, for titles such as Civilization IV and Pirates Of The Caribbean Online. He has contributed to scores for such Hollywood blockbusters as X2: X-Men United and Lilo And Stitch 2, and a host of independent features, documentaries and TV specials. And he has developed major ad campaigns for brands like Puma, Verizon, The Gap, and others. (More information on his custom work can be found at his online portfolio, Tin Works.)

His career is also marked by many rare and unusual distinctions; he has both co-created the startup sound for Microsoft's Surface operating system, and a demo song for Apple's Garage Band software, now found on every new Mac computer. His hit song 'Baba Yetu' is both the theme song to the video game Civilization IV, and is also used as a featured segment for the Dubai Fountain, the world's largest choreographed fountain, situated at the base of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper.

Christopher Tin currently lives in Santa Monica, CA.

Christopher Tin

Music or no music, it's a big discussion amongst professional photographers. There are many and varied views and opinions on this matter.

Lisa Nikole chose to have music on the galleries, but we chose to allow you to make the choice to listen or not. If you are working or in an office setting the last thing you need is music blarring from your computer when you check out any website.

When looking for music it's always such a challenge. The perfect music to the perfect gallery can really enhance the viewing of images.

That's when we found Christopher Tin, an amazing artist and musician whose music moved me, and I knew if it moved me, it would move you. The background of his album Calling All Dawns inspired us and we knew we wanted Christopher to represent our images online. We are proud to be able to bring Calling All Dawns to you!
